A pair of Soviet officers with a signal flare in 1:35 scale offers a scene with a clearly legible moment of action.

A figure set for 1:35 scale whose central motif is a green signal flare, which is also how the name reads. The data on two figures is likewise from the name. Nothing further about the contents of the package, about the height of the figures or about the way they are worked can be read out of it.
Colored signal cartridges were among the basic means of command at the moment when communication failed. A fired cartridge carried a meaning agreed in advance and was visible across the whole area. For a modeler this is a rewarding subject: the scene gains a moment on which the gaze concentrates, and at the same time a reason why the figures stand in exactly this relation to each other. The green glow moreover opens up work with light, which can be suggested by shades on the faces and on the upper surfaces of the clothing.
It pays to start with the skin, because that decides the result more than the uniform. Build the base in a middle value and build the shadows with glazes, never with black. Broadcloth looks credible when the base tone is slightly dirtied and the folds are accentuated with drybrushing. If you want to work with the lighting from the flare, add a tiny touch of cool green into the upper surfaces; really very little is enough.
