Decals for the American amphibians Ford GPA and DUKW in 1:35 scale from Star Decals. A sheet from the series issued for the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet with markings for two American amphibious vehicles of the Second World War: the small amphibious Ford GPA and the large DUKW truck. It is not a model and not a plastic accessory, but a decal set with which you add registration numbers and other lettering to a vehicle that is already built and painted. The item belongs to the series the brand issued for the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings, so in theme it aims at the June days of 1944 and the operations in France that followed.
The Ford GPA was the amphibious counterpart of the off-road jeep, known among the soldiers by the nickname Seep, and it was used mainly for reconnaissance and liaison across water obstacles. The DUKW was based on an ordinary truck and became a key link in supply during landing operations, carrying cargo from ships straight onto the beach and on inland. American vehicles carried conspicuous white registration markings on the sides and the hood, rounded out by stars and unit details.
The amphibians have large flat areas on which markings are easy to work with, but on the DUKW watch the transitions over ribs and rivets. First even the area out with gloss varnish, follow the manufacturer's instructions while applying and finally even everything out with a matte varnish. The character of the real subject is helped by restrained water staining and salt traces on the lower part of the body, but lay those on only after the markings have been fixed.
