The set captures a pair of figures of American infantry from the period of the war in Vietnam: a commander and his radio operator. These are cast resin figures in 1:35 scale, not a kit of equipment. Both figures are conceived as a pair that communicates with each other within a scene, so they hold together compositionally as well - they work well by a vehicle, by a trench and on their own on a small base. The castings are supplied unpainted and unassembled.
The radio operator was the constant companion of the commander in an American infantry unit - he carried the portable radio set and provided communications, so he moved in the commander's immediate vicinity. This interdependence of the two roles is characteristic of scenes from this period and is rewarding for a modeler: a pair of figures will create legible action on a diorama even without further equipment. The commander figure differs from a rank-and-file infantryman in his kit and in the carriage of his body, and the radio operator in the bulky load on his back.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no release agent from the mold is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the surfaces down wet with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate super glue; with a pair of figures, first try the mutual turn of the figures out dry, so that the resulting composition matches the intended scene. Apply a thin base coat before painting. It pays to shade the uniforms with a wash and a dry brush and to paint the faces in layers. If an antenna or small fittings are part of the casting, leave them on the figure until the end of the build, so that they do not break off.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
