Eighty printed designs of American and Allied wartime propaganda, reduced for dioramas in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Across the ocean, propaganda leaned on the advertising craft that the United States had mastered perfectly in the prewar years. The posters urged the buying of war bonds, work in the factories, saving metal and rubber and silence about the movement of ships. The illustrators worked with warm coloring and with figures a viewer recognized himself in, whether it was a woman worker with a rolled-up sleeve or a family at a radio set. Alongside the American sheets, designs from further Allied countries appear in the set as well. Recruitment and thrift themes moreover alternated according to what the war economy needed most urgently at the time.
The package carries eighty designs converted to the size of 1:35 figures. The material is printed paper, which is worked with scissors or a scalpel. Anyone used to wet decals has to count on a different gluing procedure and on the fact that the edge cannot be hidden under varnish in the same way. It holds best on a perfectly dry and dust-free surface, because paper brings out every grain left under it.
A period poster is one of the few accessories that carries legible text in a scene, and it therefore draws attention right after the main model. It pays to handle it with measure and not to cover every free surface with it.
