About product

U.S.M.C. Baiting the Hook, Tet 1968 in 1:35 scale from Bravo 6

The set holds castings in casting resin from which you will assemble a figure composition of American Marines in 1:35 scale. Baiting the Hook is the name of the composition, which describes only the subject and the placement of the figures. It is neither a model of a vehicle nor of an aircraft but a figure accessory for a diorama scene.

Subject and workmanship

The set belongs to the range of Marines from 1968, which Bravo 6 has conceived as a collection of mutually combinable poses in a uniform sculptural style. The individual sets can therefore be put together into one larger scene without the figures looking as if they came from another world. The castings are supplied divided into several parts, usually torso, head, limbs and carried equipment, so that the folds of the field uniform and the small kit stand out. Resin holds sharper edges and a finer surface texture than injection-molded plastic.

Building and painting tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent from the mold is removed, or the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, level the surfaces with abrasive paper and protect your airways while sanding, because resin dust is an irritant. It is glued with cyanoacrylate super glue; cement for plastic will not help. Paint over a primer. Build the skin up in thin coats of oils or acrylics, keep the uniform in the olive green shades of tropical field equipment and set the metal parts of the kit apart with a darker semi-matte shade. A dark wash will pick the folds out and a fine dry brush will pull the edges and the wear out.

Who the set is for

  • builders of dioramas and display case scenes in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who want figures engaged in a particular activity in a scene
  • those interested in figure modeling and in painting skin
  • more advanced modelers used to working with resin

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is supplied as unpainted resin castings, which you glue together and paint yourself.

The number of figures and parts is given on the packaging.

Yes, wash the parts in water with detergent to remove the release agent and apply a primer, or the paint will hold badly on resin.
