Printed period posters for scenes from 1939 to 1945 in the one thirty-fifth kit scale. The sheet measures 19 by 11 centimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
Among the accessories for one thirty-fifth this sheet belongs to those that represent nothing and yet change a great deal. It is neither a component of a machine nor an element of terrain; it is a surface that gets read. A viewer at a finished scene always stops at something that has text and an image, and that is exactly where it is decided whether the scene works as a model or as a recorded moment.
Besides the expected house wall, places suggest themselves that get forgotten: the wooden doors of a barn, the side of a site wagon, the door of a station waiting room, a board fence around a building site or the panel between the beams of a ruined building. A partly torn motif with another stuck over it is interesting too — two layers of paper on one wall tell of a change of situation better than any caption.
It is color printing on fine paper and the sheet measures 19 x 11 cm. Thin material adapts by itself once moistened to the rough plaster it lies against. It is advisable to cut the motifs out with a sharp knife along a ruler and to thin the edges on the back, or the thickness of the sheet will show on the finished wall. It is better to cut on glass or on a cutting mat than on cardboard, because a soft base lets the knife wander and the edge frays.
A new poster almost never sits right in a wartime scene. A faint layer of a gray shade, suggested traces of running water and a scuffed lower edge place the paper into the setting in which it hangs. It is advisable to work very sparingly, because a printed motif at this scale loses legibility quickly.
