This is a single model figure in 1:35 scale, that is, an accessory for a diorama or a way of bringing a vehicle model to life. It is not a kit of a vehicle. The vrchni strazmistr, a senior gendarmerie NCO, was one of the higher ranks of the gendarmerie corps and was set apart in uniform by his rank insignia; the figure is conceived for 1938, that is, for the period of the pre-Munich Republic. The number of parts, the material and the height of the finished figure are given on the packaging of the set.
During the First Republic the gendarmerie was a uniformed corps that maintained public order and safety mostly outside the large towns, where the police operated. Its members were organized in stations and moved about in the field on foot, by bicycle or by motorcycle. The uniform of the late 1930s had a characteristic appearance, including the headgear and the items of service equipment, and that is exactly why a gendarme is a rewarding figure for dioramas with interwar vehicles from the home country.
Wash the figure first in lukewarm soapy water and clean the parting seams and any remains of the casting system or of print supports off it; sanding is best done with respiratory protection. Apply a primer before painting, ideally a light gray one, as it makes checking the surface easier. Paint the uniform in thin coats, bring the shapes out with a dark wash in the folds and with a fine pass of a dry brush on the edges. Build the face up from a darker base toward lighter layers. At the end, unify the surface with a matte clear coat and leave the metal fittings semi-matte.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
