German grenadier 1944 in 1:35 scale is a standalone collector figure from Black Dog. The year given in the name places it in the closing phase of the fighting of the Second World War and also says something about the look of the equipment the figure carries.
It shows best where the whole silhouette is visible, at the wall of a damaged building, at the edge of a field track or beside a parked armored vehicle. A lone figure on foot can fill a spot that would otherwise look uninhabited, and at the same time it shows the viewer immediately how large the hardware beside it really is. Paired with another figure of the same line a scene with a story arises: one talks while the other watches the surroundings.
Paint the figure before you set it into the scenery, while the brush can still reach it from every side. The proven procedure runs from a darker base through overall brightening to picking out the folds; leave the face and the eyes for the end, once the skin tone is settled. The edges of the equipment come alive under a careful pass with a dry brush, and a final matte varnish unifies the sheen of the whole figure.
