The third variant from the series of sets with welded mounts of the return rollers for the German Pz.Kpfw IV medium tank. The number in the name distinguishes the individual renditions from one another. The vehicle is not in the package, as this is a replacement for parts that usually carry a simplified shape in the box.
On a tracked vehicle the upper run of the track does not rest on the hull, but runs over small rollers above it. They determine how the track sags between the drive sprocket and the idler wheel, and the sag is exactly the detail by which an experienced builder is recognized. When the rollers are missing or sit badly, the whole running gear looks flat and the model loses believability regardless of how well it is painted.
The Pz.Kpfw IV was produced throughout the war and went through a long row of modifications. Armor was added, the barrel and the side skirts changed, and with that the small things on the running gear changed as well. It is precisely such trifles that decide whether a finished model corresponds to a particular version, or is only a generic tank of this family.
Stretch the track dry and only then tune the position of the rollers according to it; the opposite procedure ends with the track not sitting properly. The rollers are meant to stay turnable only in appearance, as ones glued firmly withstand more and nobody tells the difference. Begin the painting with a dark base where the shadow will reach anyway and apply a lighter shade from above. Do the metallic wear on the running surface with a graphite pencil at the very end.
