1:35 Wine bottles

Wine bottles in 1:35 scale for a diorama

Small scenic accessories for a diorama in 1:35 scale. The bottles are placed on tables, in boxes, on the shelves of shops and cellars, or left lying among rubble. It is not a vehicle kit and not a finished model; these are stand-alone props to be cleaned up, painted and set into a scene yourself.

What the accessories are for

Small objects decide whether a scene looks lived in. In that respect bottles are among the most effective: they give a scene scale, fill empty spots on a table or in a corner, and hint to the viewer at what has been going on in the room. They come into their own in civilian interiors, in taverns and cellars, in a southern street scene and as part of the mess in a damaged building. The 1:35 scale is the distinguishing detail; the same subject also comes out in further scales.

Tips for working and painting

• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
• Cut the flash off with a fresh blade, and work carefully at the neck so as not to snap it.
• You can imitate glass by painting the part in a silver or pearl color and putting a clear color in bottle green or brown over it.
• Sheen is the key with glass: finish with a gloss varnish, as a matte surface kills the look of glass.
• Labels can be suggested with a strip of thin paper or with a decal, and the lower part of the bottle then brought out with a dark wash.
