About product

British 17-pounder anti-tank gun Mk.I 1:35: photo-etched set (E.T. Model)

An accessory set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the British towed anti-tank gun known as the 17-pounder, in the Mk.I form and in 1:35 scale. On artillery models the thickness of plastic shows even more than on tanks: the shield, the fittings of the carriage, the chains and the small brackets are in reality a few millimeters thick, which plastic cannot imitate. It is not a kit of the gun but an addition to a plastic model.

The real subject

The British 17-pounder anti-tank gun of 76.2 mm caliber was the most effective Western Allied anti-tank weapon of the Second World War. It entered combat in 1943 and, thanks to its high muzzle velocity, it could cope even with heavily armored German vehicles that the older 6-pounder could no longer handle. In towed form on a two-wheeled carriage with a shield it served with anti-tank units, while in installed form the same weapon found its way into the turrets of some tracked vehicles. The Mk.I form is the basic towed version.

Building and painting tips

Work from the large parts to the small ones and keep trying the seating dry, because artillery models offer little room for later correction. Cut the photo-etched parts out with a scalpel and make the bends in a bending tool. Dose the cyanoacrylate glue with the tip of a wire. Apply a primer before painting. British guns usually wore a single-color dark olive or sand finish according to the theater. You will bring the model to life with drybrushing along the edges of the shield, a dark wash in the fittings and light dust on the carriage and the wheels. Setting it in a small scene with ammunition and a crew does more for a gun than a bare base.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British Second World War equipment in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers of artillery and of dioramas with a gun crew
  • Those bothered by the thickness of the plastic shield and fittings
  • More experienced modelers with basic photo-etch tools

This is an accessory set, not a kit of the gun. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A caliber of 76.2 mm. The British designation by the weight of the projectile in pounds gives the name 17-pounder.

No. It is an accessory photo-etched set for a plastic model of the gun in 1:35 scale.

The shield, the fittings of the carriage and the small brackets are very thin in reality. A plastic casting is necessarily many times thicker and on a model it shows at first glance.

A gun comes into its own in a scene with a crew, ammunition crates and terrain. On its own on a base it looks empty.
