About product

Churchill Mk.III fenders 1:35 — photo-etched set from Voyager Model

A photo-etched set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale aimed at the fenders of the British infantry tank. It is prepared for the AFV Club plastic kit and replaces its fenders with brass sheet at a thickness correct for the scale. The set is an accessory for the build and does not make up a standalone model.

The real subject

The Churchill was a British infantry tank of the Second World War, designed to support infantry and to cross difficult ground. Its characteristic feature was the long track run carried right up to the top edge of the hull, with a great many small road wheels. The Mk.III version received a welded turret and a 6-pounder gun. The fenders and the sheet-metal covers running along the whole length of the hull are among the most conspicuous external features of the whole vehicle.

Working with long parts

Because of its layout the Churchill has some of the longest photo-etched parts you will meet in 1:35 scale. Always cut them off the fret one at a time and leave them lying on a flat surface until assembly, not in a box with the other parts. Gluing is best done in sections: put cyanoacrylate on the first third only, wait until it grabs, straighten the part and only then carry on. Anyone who glues the whole length at once usually ends up with a fender that is rippled or out of line. Before gluing, check that the plastic hull is flat at the contact point and free of mold remains, because thin sheet follows everything underneath it.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British armor in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want a scale thickness on clearly visible fenders
  • More experienced builders used to long photo-etched parts
  • Models with suggested service damage to the fenders

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit and is not a standalone model. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a photo-etched add-on set for the AFV Club plastic kit, which has to be bought separately.

Glue it in sections, always let the glue grab and keep checking that it is flat. Store the parts lying on a flat surface until assembly.

The procedure is described in the instructions for the set. As a general rule the surface beneath the photo-etched part has to be flat and free of pips so that the sheet seats.

The scope of the set is given in the instructions enclosed with the package.
