A photo-etched set for a model of the German Heuschrecke IVb self-propelled gun of the Second World War in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Heuschrecke IVb is a German self-propelled gun from the time of the Second World War, built on a tracked chassis derived from the Panzer IV tank. A 10.5 cm howitzer was seated in an open rotating turret, so the crew had all-round traverse but only minimal protection from above. The machine never reached large-scale series production and got no further than prototypes and a small verification batch, which makes it a rewarding and seldom seen subject for a display case today.
Photo-etched parts come as a thin metal sheet with the parts in relief, which are cut out of it, bent and glued to the model. On ground vehicles they aim at the places where injection-molded plastic is inevitably thicker than the real thing: at fenders and their edges, at the mesh over the engine compartment, at tool clamps, eyes and small fittings. Those very parts decide whether a model comes across as faithful, because they are the most on show on a vehicle.
Leave the sheet whole for as long as possible and separate the individual parts from it only at the moment you are really fitting them, otherwise the small pieces will be lost. Cut with a sharp blade against a hard surface and make the bend over the edge of a bending tool, so that it is equally crisp along its whole length. Use cyanoacrylate to join them, applied in a minute amount on the tip of a toothpick. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and cover it with a primer, otherwise the finish will not hold on the smooth surface.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The vehicle model, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
