About product

Jagdpanther of early production 1:35: photo-etched set from E.T. Model

This is a photo-etched detail set, that is an addition to a plastic kit, and not a model of a vehicle. Thin metal sheet makes it possible to produce parts that cannot be made in injection-molded plastic: the grilles of the engine bay, thin fenders, loops, tool clamps, hatch latches and other small items whose thickness is barely visible in 1:35 scale. The designation of the basic version of the set in the maker's range means that it concentrates on the main external elements of the vehicle.

The real subject

The Jagdpanther was a German tank destroyer of the Second World War built on the chassis of the Panther tank. In a low welded casemate it carried an 8.8 cm anti-tank gun with a long barrel, which was among the most effective weapons of its day. The combination of strong sloped frontal protection, the powerful drivetrain from the Panther and a low silhouette made it a feared type, though it was built only in limited numbers from 1944. The early production runs differ from the later ones in the form of the gun mantlet, the arrangement of the vision ports and the details of the mounting of tools and spare parts, and it is exactly these that such additions emphasize on a model.

Usage and painting tips

Keep the fret together for as long as possible and cut the parts off only just before gluing. Make the bends along the pressed score lines, ideally in a bending tool. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minimal amount, so that the excess does not run into the detail. Degrease the metal surfaces before painting and give them a base coat for metal. On German equipment a dark brown or black preshade works well, with the main shade over it and finally a wash in the recesses and dust pigments on the bottom of the hull and the fenders.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German Second World War equipment in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want to replace coarse plastic grilles and fenders with metal
  • More experienced modelers with experience of photo-etch and cyanoacrylate glue
  • Makers of dioramas where the vehicle is the main motif and will stand close inspection

The package contains only photo-etched parts. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is only a photo-etched set of metal details. The plastic kit has to be bought separately.

Photo-etched sheet has a real thickness corresponding to the scale, so the grilles, the fenders and the loops do not look coarse as they do in injection-molded plastic.

A sharp scalpel or photo-etch scissors, tweezers, a bending tool or two metal jaws, and cyanoacrylate glue. A needle file for cleaning up the edges also comes in handy.

The set is listed for the early production form. On later machines some of the parts differ, so we recommend comparing it with the documentation for the particular build.
