A basic detailing set in photo-etched metal in 1:35 scale for a model of the German Pz.Kpfw.IV medium tank in the Ausf.F2 and Ausf.G versions. The description basic means that the set covers the main external elements of the vehicle on which plastic diverges most from reality: the thin sheet of the fenders, the grilles over the engine bay, the loops, the tool clamps and the small equipment. It is not a kit of the tank but an addition to one.
The Pz.Kpfw.IV was the most widespread German medium tank of the Second World War and the only one built from its beginning to its end. The Ausf.F2 version and the Ausf.G that followed represent a key turning point: the short support howitzer was replaced by a long 75 millimeter gun, with which a vehicle originally intended to support infantry became a full-fledged destroyer of armored equipment. This change also fundamentally altered the silhouette of the tank, because the long barrel with a muzzle brake projects well beyond the outline of the hull.
Start with the fenders: they are the largest and they determine how the model looks. Cut the original plastic rendering off and sand the surface. Make the bends in a bending tool and leave the fine grilles until last, so that they do not get twisted during handling. Degrease the metal and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue, and on long edges with epoxy. A base coat for metal is compulsory. On German equipment of this period, layering the shades is rewarding: a base color, dark shading in the recesses, drybrushing on the edges and finally dust in the places where it would realistically settle. Metal fenders will also take a suggested dent, which plastic does not allow.
This is an accessory photo-etched set, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
