About product

Fenders for the Pz.Kpfw. IV family 1:35 — photo-etched parts from Voyager Model

A photo-etched set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale aimed at the fenders of the Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank. It is prepared for the Dragon 60xx series of plastic kits, so it can be used on several releases of the same vehicle. The set serves as an accessory for the build and does not make up a standalone model.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw. IV was a German medium tank of the Second World War, built in many versions throughout the conflict. The vehicles carried sheet-metal fenders along the tracks, on which some of the tools and equipment were stowed. The fenders were among the most heavily stressed features in service: they bent, tore away, and in surviving photographs the front or rear section is often missing altogether.

A set for a whole family means test-fitting dry

Sets meant for a series of kits tend to be designed to a common denominator rather than to one particular release. That is both their advantage and their catch: you cover more models, but on each of them you have to reckon with a little fine-tuning. So always proceed by laying a part on dry, checking its length and the position of the brackets, and only then gluing. Any shortening should be done by cutting on a glass surface, and the edge sanded. It also pays to start at the rear, where the shape of the hull tends to be best defined, and work forward. Brass also lets you bend a fender or remove it in part, which on this type of vehicle looks entirely natural.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German armor in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who build several versions of the same tank
  • More experienced builders willing to fine-tune parts by test-fitting dry
  • Models with realistically damaged or missing fenders

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit and is not a standalone model. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is prepared for the Dragon 60xx series of kits. Details may differ between individual releases, so try the parts dry first.

It is not. This is a photo-etched accessory fitted to a plastic kit sold separately.

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons to use photo-etched parts. Brass can be cut and bent, and the damage looks like real sheet metal.

Degrease them first and lay on a thin primer for metal, then paint with thinned paint in several coats so that the fine relief is preserved.
