About product

Voyager Model 1:35 Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.B (VK 36.01) – basic photo-etched set

This item is not a model but an accessory. The basic photo-etched set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale is cut for the Revosys RS-3001 plastic kit and serves to replace parts that injection-molded plastic cannot deliver at a scale thickness. The scope of the package and the number of frets is not stated here.

The real subject

The VK 36.01 was a German prototype heavy tank of the first half of the 1940s, one of the development steps that led to the later heavy types. The chassis rested on a wide interleaved, checkerboard layout of the road wheels. Development was halted in 1942 in favor of a competing design and the machine never reached series production; what was actually built was above all the chassis section. In documents of the period the project is listed under the designation Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.B.

Tips on weathering photo-etched parts

Metal on a model allows effects that are only imitated on plastic. Make worn edges by running an abrasive sponge or a glass spring brush gently over a painted part: the paint is rubbed away and real metal appears underneath, which then does not have to be imitated with silver paint. Keep the effect to the places where the model would genuinely be rubbed: on the edges of covers, by the walkway surfaces and around the grab handles. Darken the exposed brass with a thin brown wash, so that it does not stay conspicuously yellow. A graphite pencil lightly run along an edge adds a metallic sheen. At the end, fix everything with a flat clear coat, otherwise the effect is wiped off during further handling.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German prototypes of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want edges of covers and brackets correct to scale
  • Anyone interested in weathering with exposed metal instead of painted wear
  • Display-case and competition builds with the emphasis on the surface of the model

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. What it holds is photo-etched brass parts; the plastic kit has to be bought separately.

Run an abrasive sponge or a glass spring brush over the edge once the paint has dried. Then tone the exposed brass down with a thin brown wash.

Yes, a final flat clear coat will hold them. Without it both the worn edges and the graphite sheen are wiped away during further handling.

It was not. Development ended in 1942, and what was built was above all the chassis section of the prototype.
