Voyager Model 1:35 Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) Ausf. G is a photo-etched add-on set for a plastic kit you already own, not a standalone model. An aftermarket detail set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale. It is meant for the Dragon 6290 plastic kit and replaces selected plastic parts with thin brass sheet. The set is not a kit; it is worked with during the build of the model. On a small vehicle the thickness of the parts plays a bigger role than on large tanks, because the mismatch is apparent at first glance.
The Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) was derived from a light tank of Czechoslovak design, which came out of prewar production and was taken into German service after 1939. The vehicle had a riveted hull, a 3.7 cm gun and, for its time, a dependable drivetrain. The Ausf. G was the last production batch of the tank version; the chassis then went on being used as the basis for self-propelled tank destroyers and other derived vehicles.
Photo-etched parts have relief tenths of a millimeter deep, which is exactly as much as a single heavy coat of paint can swallow. That is why photo-etched parts are sprayed with thinned paint in several very thin passes and never built up to full opacity at once. The same principle holds for primer: a translucent veil that gives the paint something to grip is enough. When you need to emphasize the texture on photo-etched parts, a dark wash followed by dry-brushing in a lighter shade helps bring the edges out. On a riveted vehicle it also pays to paint the parts individually before the final assembly, so that you can reach between panels that sit close together.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit and is not a standalone model. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
