This set of photo-etched brass parts from Voyager Model is prepared for the Dragon 6332 plastic kit. It does not take the place of the kit but supplements it. A larger photo-etched set covers more of the vehicle, and on a half-track carrier with an open body the detail is worth having, because the inside can be seen.
The M3 Half Track was an American half-track carrier of the Second World War with wheels on the front axle and track running gear at the rear. It served to carry infantry and as a universal chassis for a range of derived versions. The combination of wheeled steering and track drive gave it decent cross-country performance while keeping it simple to operate. The open body, the folding front, the equipment clamps and the side panels are among the features that benefit most from thin metal on a model.
Photo-etched sheet comes from the factory with a thin film that makes dependable gluing and painting impossible. Before you start, wash the whole fret in warm water with a drop of dish soap, rinse it and let it dry freely. From then on touch the parts with tweezers rather than your fingers. Before painting, lay on a thin coat of primer meant for metal, ideally sprayed, so that the engraving is not lost. A heavy coat of paint is the greatest enemy of photo-etched parts, because it wipes out the very detail the set is bought for.
This is an add-on set for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
