The kit captures the combat vehicle of the 96K6 Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft system in the version on a tracked chassis. Most models of this system are based on a wheeled chassis, so the tracked variant is the less usual one and makes an interesting addition to the shelf for collectors of modern air defense. 1:35 is the standard scale for armored and special vehicles.
The Pantsir-S1 is a combined anti-aircraft system, that is, one that brings missile and gun armament together on a single carrier. On the rotating superstructure there are containers with short-range guided missiles at the sides and beneath them a pair of 30 mm rapid-fire cannons. The superstructure is completed by a search and guidance radar and an electro-optical sighting channel. The task of the system is to cover installations and units against low-flying targets, including small and fast targets that are difficult for medium-range systems. Compared with the wheeled one, the tracked chassis offers better going across country at the price of higher weight and lower transport speed.
With a subject of this kind it pays most of all to think the order of work out in advance. The superstructure with its containers and radar has a great many small parts that are hard to mask, so it is better to paint it separately from the chassis and to join the two only at the end. Finish the running gear and the lower hull before the upper part is closed up and painted. Leave the antennas and the radar faces until last so that they do not get broken off. Modern hardware takes a finer weathering than Second World War vehicles, so a dark wash into the engraved lines, a light accenting of the edges and dust pigment on the running gear will do.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
