This kit is not a model of a vehicle but a stand-alone model of a weapon mount. Zwillingssockel 36 is the German designation for a socket, that is a traversing pedestal mount on which a pair of machine guns was carried for defense against low-flying aircraft. Riich Models concentrates on exactly this kind of small but densely broken-down assembly, where the value lies in the number of separate parts. The exact make-up of the package is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The mount arose as the solution to one particular problem: an ordinary infantry machine gun on a bipod aimed badly against an aircraft, because it lacked smooth traverse and enough elevation of the barrel. The socket therefore stands on a firm base, traverses about a vertical axis and carries arms with two weapons side by side, plus a rest for the gunner and a ring or cage sight. It was used on the hulls of vehicles, on trucks and at fixed positions. For a modeler it is interesting above all because it is a typical item of equipment that an expert recognizes on a model at once and that on ordinary kits is either missing or simplified into a single piece of plastic.
The parts are small, so separate them with a cutter with a thin jaw and sand the remains of the gates away rather than snapping them off. Put the assembly together dry first and work out what you can paint after gluing and what has to be sprayed separately, usually the inner surfaces and the parts under the arms. The metal parts bring up excellently with a dark wash that runs into the pressings, and with a fine dry brush along the edges. If you are setting the mount on a vehicle or into a diorama, check the mounting point on the target model beforehand, so that the socket stands square. Finally, consider a thin breath of dust; a brand new piece beside a dusty vehicle looks out of place.
