A small aftermarket set for the plastic kit of a German destroyer. It contains a wood veneer shaped and cut to the deck surfaces of one specific model, with an adhesive backing and pre-printed plank laying. It is not a model of the ship but an accessory for improving one. The target kit is the Dragon 1064.
It is precisely on destroyers that deck sets are the smallest, so they serve well as a first experience with veneer. Little is at stake, the work takes one afternoon and the result shows at once: once the veneer is on, a plastic deck with engraved grooves turns into a surface with the natural grain of wood. Anyone who tries the procedure on a smaller ship will then tackle a large battleship with confidence, where the sheets are larger and a mistake hurts more.
A wooden deck goes well with photo-etched railings, ladders and antenna rigging. Fit the etch after the veneer, so that it does not get in the way while you press the deck down, and use a minimal amount of cyanoacrylate applied with the tip of a wire; any excess would leave a glossy stain on the wood that is almost impossible to remove from the porous surface. For the anchor gear and the ladders, mark the positions in advance, because once the deck is glued on the engraving on the plastic is no longer visible.
The accessory is sold separately. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
