This plastic kit in 1:350 scale represents the British nuclear attack submarine HMS Astute. What is special about this release is that the parts come pre-painted from the factory — once assembled, only the detail has to be finished off. The box contains a one-piece upper and lower hull, separate bow diving planes and a rudder, fin equipment (periscopes, masts, antennas, a snorkel, a propeller) and a stand.
The Astute class is the latest class of nuclear attack submarines of the Royal Navy. The first boat of the class, HMS Astute, was launched in 2007 and commissioned in 2010. The submarines are built by BAE Systems at Barrow-in-Furness on the west coast of Britain.
The hull is made up of a few large parts, so the assembly is fairly quick. Sand the hull joints down for a smooth surface. Thanks to the pre-painted parts, concentrate mainly on cleaning up the parting seams and on fine detail painting of the fin and its equipment.
The model is supplied unassembled. The parts are pre-painted, but finishing off the detail is still recommended; glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
