This is not a kit but an aftermarket accessory. The thin veneer of real wood is printed with the laying of the deck planks including the seams and has an adhesive layer on the back, so it is glued straight onto the plastic deck of the model. The parts are cut for the Aoshima 041178 kit, so check the match with the model in your collection before you buy.
The veneer comes in a natural shade that is usable as it is. Plenty of modelers, though, want the deck either a little warmer or, on the contrary, more bleached out, and thinned wood stain serves exactly that purpose. The principle is simple: try it on an offcut, not on the deck, and apply it twice weakly rather than once strongly, because wood takes color unevenly and a dark tone cannot be taken back. Water-based wood stain also makes the veneer swell slightly, so apply it thinly and let the surface dry without heating it. The final protection belongs to a matte or satin varnish in a very thin coat. Gloss varnish looks unnatural on a deck in 1:350 scale and emphasizes every fingerprint.
Sand the plastic deck, remove the mold marks and degrease it with rubbing alcohol. Pull the protective film off the back in sections, lay the piece dry first and line it up, and only then glue from the center out to the edges, driving the air outward.
The accessory is supplied separately. The kit, wood stain, paints and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
