A set of miniature aircraft in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The package contains six examples of the Italian IMAM Ro.43 reconnaissance floatplane, molded in clear plastic, and sheets of decals. It is not a stand-alone aircraft model but an accessory with which you can populate the catapults and decks of models of Italian cruisers and battleships in the same scale. The small dimensions and the clear parts make it possible to depict a shipboard flight realistically.
The IMAM Ro.43 was an Italian single-float reconnaissance floatplane that served with the Regia Marina roughly between 1935 and 1943. It came about in response to a 1933 requirement for a catapult-launched reconnaissance machine for the ships of the fleet. It was a two-seat biplane with characteristic gull wings, launched from ships by catapult and lifted back on board by crane after alighting on the water.
Given the tiny dimensions of the parts, this is work that calls for patience and tweezers. Separate the parts carefully from the gates and use a small amount of cyanoacrylate to glue them. It is a good idea to spray the clear plastic with a base coat first. For 1:350 scale choose thin coats of paint so that the engraved detail does not disappear. Apply the decals over a smooth gloss base. The models can be fitted to the catapults as well as stowed on deck.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
