A photo-etched detail accessory, not a ship kit. This photo-etched handrail set, designated type A, from Tamiya is intended for the model of the Japanese battleship Yamato in 1:350 scale. The thin brass parts replace the coarser plastic railings and give the decks a realistic, delicate look that injection-molded plastic cannot reach in this scale.
Railings run along the decks and superstructures of a warship, and their delicacy has a strong effect on the overall impression of the finished model. Photo-etched parts are many times thinner than plastic ones and look convincing both close up and in photographs. The type A set covers designated sections of the Yamato's decks; for railings all around it is used together with further parts.
