An injection-molded plastic kit of a Kilo class diesel-electric submarine in service with the PLA Navy, in 1:350 scale from Hobby Boss. The model has a full hull with engraved detail and comes with photo-etched parts and a stand. It is meant to be assembled, painted and displayed.
Kilo is the designation for diesel-electric attack submarines of Soviet, and later Russian, origin with a characteristic teardrop hull, which were also supplied to other navies including the Chinese one. They serve to attack surface and submarine targets and for patrol duties; they are valued for their low noise levels.
Glue the halves of the hull with thin cement and sand and clean the joint carefully so that no visible line is left on the hull. A primer and painting with an airbrush are the answer; submarines come into their own in a uniform matte shade with the hatches and gaps gently picked out. Glue the photo-etched parts and the propeller with cyanoacrylate and set the model on the stand supplied.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
