An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Russian nuclear attack submarine of the Yasen class (SSN in Western notation) in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Hobby Boss. The model consists of a split full hull (an upper and a lower part) with a sail that blends smoothly into it and with finely engraved surface relief. The set offers the choice of raised or lowered periscopes and masts, a separately fitted diving plane, an optional propulsor, a stand and photo-etched accessories (covers, hatches, a nameplate). The binding list of parts is given in the instructions in the package.
The Yasen class (Project 885) represents a new generation of Russian multirole nuclear submarines meant to replace the older Soviet attack and missile classes gradually. It is a large, quiet vessel that combines the role of an attack submarine with the ability to carry guided missiles in separate silos. The hull with its integrated sail and the modern propulsion place this class among the most modern vessels of the Russian submarine fleet.
The key to a convincing submarine model is a smooth, seamless hull — fill and sand the gap between the upper and the lower part carefully, ideally with respiratory protection. Decide on raised or lowered masts before you glue the sail. We recommend a base coat, a uniform dark shade through an airbrush and only a discreet patina — submarine hulls tend to be relatively clean. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue and set the model on the stand supplied.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
