This set from the brand Artwox Model is an aftermarket accessory for the plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier USS Franklin (CV-13) in 1:350 scale. It consists of self-adhesive masking sheets whose cut-outs match the layout of the flight deck of the Trumpeter 05604 kit. The model, paints and glue are not in the package. The accessory is cut to measure for exactly this kit, so check before buying that you have the right model.
On a carrier the flight deck is the largest continuous area of the model and at the same time the only place where almost the whole visual impression is decided by color and its layout. In 1:350 scale it measures several tens of square centimeters, and any inaccuracy in the division between shades cannot be hidden on it. Masking sheets therefore make even more sense on carriers than on battleships: the larger the area, the more a freehand mistake shows.
Spray a large area in crossed passes: the first coat along the deck, the second across it. A one-way coat on a part this extensive almost always leaves streaks that come out once it is matted down. Lay the mask onto the area in sections and keep forcing the air out toward the edge, or bubbles will remain and paint will run under them. If the deck holds several shades, plan the order from the lightest to the darkest; dark paint covers light more reliably than the other way round.
This is not a model of an aircraft carrier. The package contains only masking material for painting the deck.
