An accessory, not a model. Artwox Model supplies a veneer overlay for the flight deck with pre-printed plank laying and an adhesive back; it is glued onto the plastic deck of a kit of the aircraft carrier USS Lexington CV-2 in her state from May 1942. The set is cut for the Trumpeter 05608 kit, so please check the match before you order.
On aircraft carriers the flight deck is the largest continuous area of the model and every deviation on it is visible at first glance. So work from the centerline outward: first line the piece up by the center line and the stern, press it down in the middle and only then work out gradually to the sides. Never lay long pieces down all at once: pull the film off bit by bit and only tap the veneer down with a finger until you are sure it is sitting right.
Once it is glued down, let the deck rest and go over the edges. Level any overhang with a new sharp blade run from the veneer toward the edge of the plastic, not the other way round. The tone of the wood can be adjusted with a thin wood stain or glaze; apply them in coats and keep checking, because the veneer soaks the color up quickly. A matte varnish at the end unifies the surface and protects the pattern of the planks during further weathering.
The set is a separate accessory. The kit and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
