Very Fire 1:350 USS Iowa Class Battleship Metal barrel set is a set of turned metal barrels for models of Iowa-class battleships. It is not a kit but an accessory for one.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Very Fire replaces the plastic barrels on a model of an Iowa-class battleship in 1:350 scale with accurate turned metal parts. Metal holds its shape, has no parting line and no marks from a mold, and the barrels are perfectly straight, which shows at first glance on long naval guns. The exact number and make-up of the barrels in the package are stated on the box.
The Iowa-class battleships were the last American battleships taken into service. The main armament consisted of nine 406 mm guns in three triple turrets, and the secondary armament of dual-purpose 127 mm guns in twin mountings. It is precisely the long barrels of the main battery that define the silhouette of the ship, and their rendering affects the final impression of a model more than anything else.
Metal barrels are not glued with cement for plastic. Use cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger parts rather the thicker gel version, which gives time to align them. The seats in the turrets usually have to be drilled out slightly or cleaned up, so that a barrel seats without play and at the right angle. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. It works well to fit the barrels only after the turrets have been painted, when the alignment of the whole battery is easier to check.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
