This product is not a model of the ship but an accessory. The wood veneer with pre-printed laying of the deck planks and an adhesive backing is glued onto the plastic deck of the kit. It is offered in the blue, that is, the darker finish. The cut matches the Trumpeter 05303 kit, so check before you buy that this is the one you are building.
Wood differs from plastic in one essential respect: it is absorbent and gets dirty easily. The mark of greasy fingers, a drop of spilled glue or a wash that has run in are practically impossible to remove from bare veneer. That is why it pays to seal the deck with a thin coat of varnish once it is glued down. A matte or satin surface suits wood better than gloss and at the same time unifies the places where the veneer soaks unevenly. Apply the varnish in several very thin coats with an airbrush; one heavy coat could make the wood ripple or dissolve the printed plank laying. On the dark blue finish a sealed surface is doubly useful, because every mark and glossy trace shows up well on a dark area.
The plastic has to be flat, degreased and dry. Pull the film off in sections, line the piece up by the outline and the openings, drive the air out to the edges and trim overhangs with a fresh blade.
