1:48 Kitchen Tablecloths & Towels

Tablecloths and towels for a kitchen, 1:48 scale

A set with motifs of kitchen tablecloths and towels in 1:48 scale. It belongs in an interior scene: on the table, on a shelf, over the back of a chair or over a rail by the stove.

Why textiles in particular make a scene lived-in

Furniture on its own looks like a display in a shop. Only the things someone has just put down turn a room into a lived-in kitchen, and most of them are made of fabric. In 1:48 scale a tabletop of eighty by one hundred and twenty centimeters works out at barely two by two and a half centimeters, and a towel of forty by sixty centimeters at roughly eight by twelve millimeters. These are therefore genuinely tiny pieces, looked at with tweezers, but it is exactly they that decide whether a scene is alive.

How to work with tiny pieces

• Cut them out with a small margin and level the edge only once they are glued down.
• Run the tablecloth over the edge of the table and square the corners as on the real thing, not to a point.
• Fold the towel over the edge of a shelf or a rail; the fold gives the piece volume.
• Lay the piece down with tweezers and press it home with a blunt toothpick; a finger will smear the surface.
• Choose the glue according to the material of the sheets, try it on an offcut and go by the manufacturer's instructions.

Who the set is for

For builders of interior scenes and dioramas in 1:48 scale whose room comes out right but looks uninhabited. Furniture, figures, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
