A metal floor plate in 1:35 scale as the ground of a scene. It belongs wherever machinery is at work: in a workshop, a hangar, an engine room, on a loading platform or on an access catwalk.
A sheet-metal floor tells the viewer two things at once. First, that this is a working space and not a living one, so the scene needs no further explaining. Second, it sets the size: the regular division of the surface is the cue by which the eye takes the measure of a figure and of a vehicle. In 1:35 scale a panel of one meter by two meters works out at roughly three by six centimeters, so several sections are visible side by side on an ordinary base, and any irregularity in how they are laid would stand out.
