Stone Pavement Parts No. 1 from the Japanese brand Zoukei-Mura opens a range of diorama parts with a stone paving motif for bases and vignettes.

The first set from the Zoukei-Mura range of diorama accessories brings a stone paving motif of the kind that belongs to the streets of European cities, to barracks courtyards or to airfield forecourts. A paved surface is one of the most rewarding foundations on which a finished model gains context at once: the wheels of a vehicle have something to rest on, figures get a natural stage, and the whole looks like a slice of a real place rather than an exhibit on a bare board. The parts are conceived so that a surface can be put together from them according to your own layout.
First lay the segments out dry and only then fix them to a base board. The stone pattern comes to life beautifully after a dark glaze is applied into the joints and the raised faces are lightened gently with a dry brush; in the shadows by walls, leave the tone deeper.
The set will appeal to builders of dioramas who want a worthy surface under finished models without lengthy cutting out of individual stones. The manufacturer gives no particular scale for the range, so the pattern comes into its own everywhere the size of the stones sits optically with the model, from figures through vehicles to aircraft.
