A Luftwaffe workshop ladder in 1:48 scale. An accessory for a hangar, a workshop or an aircraft that is having its engine worked on.
Responsibility details are not available.
Aircraft maintenance largely took place overhead. A mechanic could not reach the engine, the armament in the wing or the cockpit area from the ground, so a ladder belonged to the basic equipment of a workshop as naturally as wrenches and chocks. In hangars and at field airfields it was carried from machine to machine, so in period photographs it often stands right beside a dismantled aircraft.
A workshop ladder in 1:48 scale, that is in the size matching the most widespread aircraft kits. On its own it is a small thing, but in a scene it does a great deal of work: it gives the viewer a clear scale against which to judge the size of the aircraft, and it suggests action without your having to add further figures or equipment to the diorama.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest carefully so that the steps stay straight. Wash and degrease the part before painting, and choose the glue according to the material of the part. When painting, bear in mind that workshop equipment never looks new: a base shade, a dark wash into the joints and corners, wear along the edges of the steps and finally a few oil stains around the foot. Stand the ladder on a flat surface so that all its feet touch the base, otherwise the scene looks crooked.
For builders of aircraft dioramas, hangar scenes and display cases where a model is to tell a story. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
