An Art Scale masking set for the Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:35 scale is double-sided and helps cover the glazing frames while spraying paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among the painting aids and does not make up a model on its own. The 1:35 scale is not usual for aircraft, but with this type it makes sense: the Spitfire Mk.Vb comes out in it as a plastic kit, and the mask is cut for exactly that. The brand of the kit manufacturer is given in the name of the item.
The package is meant for work from both sides of the glazing. The outer parts protect the transparencies while the top coat is sprayed, and the inner ones let the frame be painted so that it does not stay transparent when looked at from inside the cockpit. The result is a readable edge with no step and an even width of frame.
The Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerously produced version of the type. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 series engine, and the letter in the designation set out the armament fit in the wing. The Mk.Vb form carried a combination of two 20 mm cannons and four machine guns, which set it apart from the machine gun only variant. Machines of this version bore the main weight of the fighting over Europe in 1941 and 1942 and also served in the Mediterranean.
Degrease the surface before fitting the parts and let it dry completely. Smooth the edges down with a soft tool once they are laid on. Build the paint up in thin coats so that the transition stays low. Lift them off at an angle, and rather before the coat has fully cured.
