Artwox Model deck covering, 1:400 scale, for a finished model of the German battleship Tirpitz. The plastic deck thus gains the visible grain of individual planks. The target kit is Heller 81079.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Artwox Model belongs on a finished plastic model of the German battleship Tirpitz. It does not include the ship kit. Its only job is to turn the smoothly molded surfaces into a deck with the visible grain of individual planks. The cut is calculated for the Heller 81079 kit.
The Tirpitz was the second ship of her class and entered service in February 1941. She practically never fought an action against an enemy surface force, yet for three years she shaped events in the north: as long as she lay in the Norwegian fjords, the British admiralty had to keep strong units at readiness and the Allied convoys to Murmansk sailed under a standing threat. The Norwegians nicknamed her the lonely queen of the north. She survived a series of attacks by midget submarines and of raids from aircraft carriers; her end came only with the heavy bombs dropped in November 1944 off Tromso.
The surface must be flat and degreased, otherwise the covering will not seat over its whole area. It pays to work in sections and to proceed from the stern toward the bow. Trace the items that stay on the deck beforehand and cut the openings for them accurately. You will fine-tune the shade with a glaze or a very thin wash, and then knock the sheen back with a matte clear coat.
