About product

British antenna for the Wireless Set No. 11, 1:35 scale (MASTER)

This is a small metal accessory from the Polish maker MASTER, not a vehicle kit. It replaces the plastic or missing rod antenna on a model of a British armored vehicle in 1:35 scale. It corresponds to the antenna used with the Wireless Set No. 11 radio on armored vehicles in the period between 1938 and 1942.

The real subject

The Wireless Set No. 11 was a British military radio introduced before the Second World War and routinely fitted into armored vehicles in its early years. The set came with a rod antenna system mounted on the hull or on the turret. The antenna is therefore a typical recognition feature of early British equipment, and on a model it can be spotted at once because it forms a striking vertical line above the outline of the vehicle.

Building and painting tips

A metal antenna has a decisive advantage over stretched sprue or a plastic part: it is genuinely straight, it does not warp in the heat and it survives being touched when the model is carried or the display case is dusted. Seat the base of the antenna in a pre-drilled hole, run the thin drill in at a right angle and mark the position with a needle beforehand. Glue it with gel cyanoacrylate or with epoxy, which fills the play and gives you time to set the antenna upright. Degrease the metal before painting and use a metal primer, or the finish will rub off when the model is handled. Paint the antenna in the shade of the vehicle but weather it only lightly, as dust on a thin rod looks unnatural. Fit the accessory at the very end of the build.

Who the accessory is for

  • Builders of early-war British armor in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers for whom plastic or stretched antennas have not worked out
  • Anyone building a diorama where the model has to survive repeated handling
  • Competition builders who deal with the smallest vehicle equipment too

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a vehicle kit. Glue, paints and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

British armored vehicles fitted with the Wireless Set No. 11 radio, that is equipment from roughly 1938 to 1942. Check the particular vehicle type against period photographs of your model.

Metal stays straight, does not warp and does not break during normal handling of the model. Stretched sprue sags over time and often snaps when the display case is dusted.

Drill a hole into the plastic at a right angle and glue the part in with thicker cyanoacrylate or with epoxy. Epoxy gives you time to set the antenna exactly upright.
