About product

Browning M2HB 12.7 mm on a tank mount, 1:35 scale (MASTER)

This is not a model of a vehicle, but a detail accessory from the Polish maker MASTER. It will replace the simplified machine gun from a plastic kit with a faithful assembly of the weapon on a tank mount in the form from the period of the Second World War, specifically with the early M23 cradle and the early tray under the ammunition box.

The real subject

The Browning M2HB is a heavy machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber with a thick-walled, air-cooled barrel. On armored vehicles it was fitted on a mount on the turret or on the hull and served mainly against lightly protected targets and in defense against low-flying machines. The mount went through several modifications during the war: the shape of the cradle changed as well as the way the ammunition box was held, so the early and the late assembly look different. It is precisely these differences that decide whether a model matches a particular period.

Building and painting tips

The assembly is best fitted only after the vehicle has been sprayed, because the thin parts are easily damaged during masking. Cut the plastic machine gun off the kit and level the surface of the mount. Glue the small parts with super glue applied with a pin; for the larger joints epoxy works well, because it gives time to settle the weapon at the right angle. Before painting, degrease the surface and use a primer suitable for the material. The weapon looks best in a dark shade with a hint of metallic sheen on the edges, not in gloss black. Polish the barrel only lightly with graphite and run the dry brush along the ridges of the cooling jacket.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of American armored vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers for whom the coarse machine gun from the box is not enough
  • Anyone interested in the correct early wartime form of the mount
  • Builders of dioramas where the weapon on the turret is the main element in view

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, without the kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

According to the name it is the early wartime form with the M23 cradle and the early tray. Other variants of the same weapon have a different cradle or a different mounting of the ammunition box.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Count on cleaning the parts, gluing them together and painting them.

Only after the vehicle has been sprayed. The thin parts of the weapon are easily damaged during masking and handling.
