The BAC One-Eleven was a British short-haul jet airliner with a pair of engines placed on the sides of the tail and with the horizontal stabilizer carried on top of the fin. It entered service in the middle of the sixties and became one of the commercially most successful British transport machines. The 500 series brought a lengthened fuselage and a higher passenger capacity, so it came into its own especially on densely occupied European routes and in charter transport, where it flew for many more decades.
