Curtiss H-75A/Mohawk IV Allied Pilots is a plastic kit of the export American fighter in 1:144 scale from the Mark I brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the export Curtiss Hawk 75 in the versions that flew under the French and the British flag. It is issued by Mark I, a Czech maker aimed precisely at the small 1:144 scale, where a finished aircraft fits in the palm of a hand and yet keeps fidelity of shape. The subtitle Allied Pilots points to the pilots of the Allied states to whom the type was entrusted.
The Hawk 75 was the export sibling of the American P-36 fighter. An all-metal cantilever low-wing monoplane with a radial engine and retractable undercarriage, it was among the modern machines of the second half of the thirties: it climbed well, was agile and bore rough handling. The French Air Force entered combat with it in 1940, and the British name Mohawk was then carried by the machines deployed outside Europe. Against the later types it lacked speed, but it earned a reputation as a reliable and forgiving aircraft.
In this scale the cleanliness of the work decides. Sand the mold parting lines with fine paper and fill the joints with a thin layer of filler rather than a thick one. Apply the primer as a mist so that the fine panels do not disappear. Two-tone masking of the upper surfaces comes out best with a mask of shapeable tape and low pressure. The frame of the cockpit canopy is the smallest detail of the whole model and calls for a thin brush and a steady hand.
The package contains an unassembled and unpainted model. Glue, paints and other modeling supplies are not in it.
