A kit of the last British fighter biplane in a box that is, according to the name, devoted to the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In 1:144 scale this is a small model with delicate struts that contrasts strikingly in the display case with later monoplanes.
The Gladiator arrived in the mid-1930s as both the peak and the end of one line of development. It had an enclosed cockpit, a Bristol Mercury radial engine and an armament of four machine guns, yet two lifting surfaces and a fixed landing gear already belonged to the past. Even so, it fought where nothing more modern was to be had: over Malta, in North Africa and in the Middle East. Slow but extraordinarily agile, in the hands of an experienced pilot it could trouble even faster opponents, because it turned in a far smaller radius.
A biplane in a small scale stands or falls with the interplane struts. Prepare a simple jig that will hold the upper wing level until the joints set. Glue the struts one at a time and let each of them firm up. Sand shades on the upper surfaces look more convincing when the centers of the panels are lightened slightly. Rigging wires can be suggested with a fine thread, but it is not essential.
This is a set of parts for you to assemble and paint yourself. Chemicals and paints have to be obtained separately.
