A model of the British Hawker Tempest fighter in the late-war Mk.V version, in the small 1:144 scale from Mark I. According to the name, the Fighter Aces subtitle refers to the pilots who scored the most successes on this type.
The Tempest grew out of the Typhoon, but it received a new wing with a thinner section that unlocked high speeds at low altitude. A massive Napier Sabre engine worked under the cowling and the armament consisted of four 20 mm cannons. In the second half of 1944 it became one of the most effective tools against the flying bombs aimed at Britain, and over northwest Europe it also coped with the first jet opponents. It was a heavy, fast aircraft that forgave little, yet down low it had few rivals among propeller-driven machines.
The large radiator unit under the nose is a visible feature, so darken its interior to keep the opening from looking flat. Stripes on the lower surfaces are easily overpainted in a small scale, so mask them with narrow tape cut to size. If the cannon barrels and the pitot tube get damaged, they can be replaced with a piece of wire of a suitable diameter.
The kit consists of separate parts meant for assembly. Paint and adhesives are not included.
