A pine base from the Polish maker Modelling Made in Poland. According to the name it stands on a square base of 4.5 x 4.5 cm and measures 80 mm in height, so it lifts a model above the level of the shelf and brings it closer to the viewer's eye. The black finish forms a neutral frame that does not compete with the colors of the finished work.
It separates a model from the surroundings of a display case and gives it the look of finished work. With busts and individual figures the height counts double: anyone who has painted a face and eyes wants them at eye level, not seen from above. A footprint of 4.5 x 4.5 cm is cut for one figure, a bust or a small vehicle, not for an extensive scene.
The model is most securely attached to the board with a wire pin sunk into a pre-drilled hole and secured with cyanoacrylate or epoxy glue – glue alone will not last long on smooth wood. If you want to add a piece of terrain to the top surface, leave a clear margin around the perimeter so that the wood stays visible. Felt pads suit the underside, so that the plinth does not scratch furniture, and the front face is the natural place for a plate with the name of the subject.
The model, the figure and the glue are not supplied with the base.
