A display base from the Polish brand Modelling Made in Poland. According to the name the base measures 4.5 x 4.5 cm, the height is 80 mm and the surface carries the wenge shade – a dark brown tone named after an exotic wood, which lets the grain of the pine beneath it show through. Against the black version it reads warmer and behaves less severely in a glazed display case.
A brown tone supports models in earthy camouflage colors, historical figures and vehicles with wooden elements well. With cool gray-blue camouflage it works as a counterweight that brings the cool shade out. The body of the base is slim, so the work on display stands out from it and is not lost on a wide board.
Before you fit the model, try out where the center of gravity will be – with leaning figures or an aircraft in a flying attitude it helps to move the mounting closer to the center of the area. Wood works with humidity, so do not store the base in an unheated shed. Drill the hole for the pin slowly, so that the surface does not chip, and wipe off any excess glue at once while it is still wet; on a dark surface a dried mark shows up more than on a light one.
