An injection-molded plastic set of tiny models of Japanese carrier-based aircraft in 1:450 scale. It serves to furnish the flight deck and the hangar of aircraft carrier models in the same scale in which the Japanese company Hasegawa releases the large carriers. The package holds plastic parts and a decal sheet with markings for several types of machine: the Type Zero fighter Model 52, the Ryusei carrier bomber, the Tenzan torpedo aircraft, the Saiun reconnaissance aircraft and the Shiden fighter. It therefore represents the later, final generation of Japanese carrier aviation.
Japanese aircraft carriers carried a combination of fighter, bomber, torpedo and reconnaissance machines, whose composition changed in the course of the Second World War. The Type Zero fighter in its Model 52 form was a late development variant of the best-known Japanese carrier fighter, the Tenzan replaced the older torpedo aircraft, the Ryusei was to combine the roles of dive bomber and torpedo carrier, and the fast Saiun was designed for long-range reconnaissance. The set therefore matches the closing period of the war rather than its beginning.
The 1:450 scale means that the individual aircraft measure only a few centimeters and that some parts are at the limit of visibility. Paint them while they are still on the sprue and separate them only at the end, otherwise the tiny parts are hard to hold. Use liquid cement applied with the tip of a brush and an airbrush or a very fine brush; large contrasting transitions look unnatural in this scale. Transfer the decals with a damp brush and settle them with a decal softener. Fit the aircraft on the deck only after it has been finished and varnished.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a model of the ship are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
