Figure heads with the Soviet SSh-39 or SSh-40 helmet fitted, in 1:48 scale, for swapping heads on small figures.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Red Army wore the SSh-39 and SSh-40 steel helmets from the end of the 1930s and they stayed in the equipment long after the Second World War. Both have practically the same shell shape and differ mainly in the inner liner, so on a model an expert will tell them apart sooner than a casual viewer. On a small figure the helmet carries the greatest part of the impression of the whole figure, because its outline is visible even from a distance.
The package holds heads with the helmet fitted, in 1:48 scale. They are intended for swapping heads on small figures, whose faces tend to be merely suggested and the same across the whole group. At this size swapping the heads is the fastest way to give the figures different turns of the head and tell them apart without touching the body of the figure.
Work over a tray with a raised edge, because a part of this size pings away and is never found again. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder back lightly. Wash and degrease the head before painting. Do not paint the face feature by feature in this scale: lay the flesh tone on, let a dark glaze run into the recesses and suggest the nose and the cheekbones with light.
The set is for the modeler who adds crews and infantry to hardware in 1:48 scale and wants more than one face in the group. The figures, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
