Heads with the SSh-39/40 helmet in 1:72 scale are intended to bring the figures of small dioramas into one consistent look. The package contains the head castings alone, without the rest of the figure.
Responsibility details are not available.
1:72 is the smallest of the usual figure scales, and it is exactly there that swapping a head pays off most, because the shape of the helmet carries most of the information about who the figure represents. This item offers head castings with the Soviet steel helmet and is part of the accessory program of Firma49.
The SSh-39 steel helmet replaced an older Soviet pattern in the prewar years, and from 1940 it was produced in the SSh-40 variant with a modified inner suspension. It was worn by soldiers of infantry as well as armored units and its characteristic dome became one of the recognizable marks of the Eastern Front. It stayed in service for a long time after 1945.
Take the castings off with a fresh blade and work over a light surface so that you do not lose a small part. Degrease the surface before painting and lay a very thin base down, since a thick coat would clog the features of the face at this scale. It works well to mix the skin a shade darker and to apply the lightest shade only to the raised places, then to lift the helmet gently with a dry brush.
Glue, paints and tweezers are obtained separately from the set.
