About product

A flying stork for generals

The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch lifted off the ground in under a hundred meters and, against a fresh wind, touched down almost on the spot. That made it a universal courier: it carried the wounded away, searched for downed crews and moved staff officers to places a transport aircraft would never have reached. The high strut-braced wing with automatic slats and the long landing gear legs let it land on a mountain meadow or on a broken road.

Five machines on the sheet

The second part of the collection for 1:32 scale begins with an aircraft of the short-range reconnaissance squadron 3.(H)/31 over Poland in May 1941 and continues with a machine of 2.(H)/21 from the summer of the same year. The third scheme belongs to the example used in Western Europe by the American general Dwight Eisenhower. The line-up is closed by an aircraft of 3./JG27 from the Libyan desert in 1942 and a machine of 6.(H)/31 from the first half of 1941.

A captured machine at an Allied headquarters

The most interesting scheme on the sheet is the aircraft that fell into American hands and served the supreme commander of the Allied forces in Europe. Captured Storchs were taken up by officers of both sides precisely for their ability to land on a field track by a command post. Repainted machines therefore carried combinations of the original German camouflage and hastily sprayed Allied markings.

Why reach for the large scale

At 1:32 the Storch is unusually large, because a span of fourteen meters works out at almost half a meter. It therefore deserves accurate, well-covering markings that will not disappear under the window framing of the glazed cabin. The sheet is printed continuously, so each motif is cut out separately close to the artwork.

The package holds the sheet itself; the plastic parts are obtained separately.

FAQ

Five. Two machines of short-range reconnaissance squadrons from 1941, the aircraft used by General Eisenhower, an example of 3./JG27 from Libya in 1942 and a further machine from the first half of 1941.

For 1:32. The Storch has a span of almost half a meter in it, so the markings stand out even over the large area of the wing.

It is not; this is a standalone sheet. The plastic parts have to be obtained separately.

On smooth gloss varnish. Under a matte finish, air gets caught between the film and the paint and the edge of the motif will silver.
